Guns are the Problem, Not Gender-Affirming Care

By Travis Bone

Conservatives are literally putting a target on the transgender community’s back following the school shooting in Nashville this week. While little is actually known about the shooter or their motives at this point, one of the earliest facts to leak is that they may be trans, and even the details on that were bungled by law enforcement officers during an early press conference.

Officers confirmed to reporters that the shooter was a transgender woman, later reports were revised to say the shooter was a trans man, friends of the shooter identified them as a female, however in recent social media posts the shooter used he/him pronouns.

But that didn’t stop the likes of Donald Trump Jr. and Marjorie Taylor Greene from jumping on social media to make baseless claims.

In reality transgender people are four times more likely to be targeted for violence just because of who they are.

To be clear, it has become a new talking point on the right that transgender people are committing acts of violence. In reality transgender people are four times more likely to be targeted for violence just because of who they are.

And completely devoid of any facts, reason, logic or grammatical prowess, Marjorie Taylor Greene opined on what she thinks the medical care the shooter was receiving.

Again, there is absolutely no correlation between gender-affirming care and the use of guns for mass shootings. She is trying to shoehorn her fake culture war into a tragedy to score political points. When we look at other countries where gender-affirming care is more accepted, there aren’t more shootings.

Guns are the problem, period, full stop. The difference is, other countries have done something about the problem of guns and specifically assault rifles.

It’s time we do the same here. Q
