Drag Isn’t Dangerous is Making Telethons Fabulous Again

We already know that the Queer community is under assault from drag bans and anti-trans legislation to don’t say gay bills and hate crimes in general directed at the community. That’s why now, more than ever it’s time for our community and our allies to support those who have supported us over the years. That’s right, I am talking about our beloved drag queens who have been at the vanguard of the queer rights movement since the first brick was thrown at Stonewall.

“Drag Isn’t Dangerous” will stream live on Sunday, May 7 at moment.co/dangerous and it’s organizers are calling it “The biggest fundraising effort to combat recent anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation to date”. RuPaul’s drag race alum Peppermint will be joined by actor/comedian Justin Martindale to co-host the event.

An amazing lineup of celebrities have already signed up to participate in the live telethon broadcast including Charlize Theron, Ali Wong, Sarah Silverman, Jesse Eisenberg, Amy Schumer, Leslie Jones, Margaret Cho and Wilson Cruz just to name a few.

“As soon as you try to define what Drag is, it changes forms and becomes something new. It’s an unstoppable force that cannot be silenced.”—Alaska

“The recent demonization of drag culture has been greatly upsetting and completely shocking to me. I have had the pleasure of getting to know many drag performers, including one of my idols, the incomparable Trixie Mattel, over the past several years,” Jesse Eisenberg said in a release. “Drag artists represent joy, creativity and celebrate the many wonderful ways to be in our society. To attribute anything else to them is appalling and dangerous.”  “The nerve of these disingenuous politicians is unfathomable,” Sarah Silverman added. “The number one killer of children is guns and these NRA pawns deflect it with a completely fabricated problem that puts the drag community in danger. The hypocrisy is astounding.”

Of course the event wouldn’t be complete without appearances from some of the biggest names in drag today like Trixie Mattel, Bob the Drag Queen, Alaska, Trinity the Tuck, Monét X Change, and Eureka O’Hara."Drag is an art form that provides inspiration and empowerment,” Alaska added promoting the event. “As soon as you try to define what Drag is, it changes forms and becomes something new. It’s an unstoppable force that cannot be silenced." Ticket sales & donations for the telethon have already surpassed $100K since the event was first announced. All net proceeds from the event will be divided among approved charities that support LGBTQIA+ causes and drag performers in need, especially in states where they face discrimination and bans. The star studded event will stream live Sunday May 7th. Q
